This week, I will tell you about 8 Candela in the Woodside neighborhood of Northwood. It is located near the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and is just a block away from the community pool, spa, tennis courts, and tot lot. The house has been beautifully updated with the help of an interior decorator and is move-in ready. The home has a nicely hardscaped driveway and a small garden. I visited the home during its first open house and there were are a lot of people checking it out.

The front door leads into the living room, but does have room for an entry table or bench beside the door. The flooring helps to designate the space, with tile in the entry and hardwood in the living room. The room has cathedral ceilings and a huge window facing the street. A railing and three steps down separate the living room from the dining room.
The dining room is a pretty standard size for Northwood homes. It has a window facing the side of the house and vaulted ceilings. The window has both plantations shutters and curtains. It has the same tile floors as the entryway.
A hallway behind the dining room leads to the kitchen and family room. The kitchen is the first room on the left. It has been fully remodeled and includes granite counters, attractive cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances that include a built-in refrigerator, two convection ovens, and a wine cooler. It has a separate electric cooktop. The counters and cabinets for a u-shape and a separate peninsula offers much more storage, a long counter, and a second sink. Seating is available on the opposite side of the peninsula. The entire back wall has paned windows facing the backyard, including a window seat in the breakfast nook.
The family room is on the other side of the kitchen peninsula. It has the same tile floors seen through most of the first floor. Recessed lights have been added to the scraped ceilings (all are scraped throughout the house). Sliding doors lead to the backyard and a smaller window faces the side of the house. One wall has a remodeled, custom fireplace.
A hallway behind the family room leads to the first floor bedroom and bathroom, as well as the laundry area. The laundry area is a hallway between the bedroom and the garage. It has space for side by side machines and tall linen cupboards.
The first floor bedroom has been converted to an office. Instead of a closet, it has a built-in desk with bookshelves and drawers that fills the entire wall. This room has recessed lighting, a window facing the side of the home, and hardwood flooring. While having a main floor bedroom is a definite plus, the removal of the closet makes it technically not a bedroom anymore.
The first floor bathroom is just across the hall from the bedroom. It has a new vanity and older tile in the shower.
The backyard is pretty big relative to the new homes in Irvine. It has a hardscaped patio with a built-in barbecue near the house and a raised patio near the back of the yard. There is also a grassy area and several garden boxes. A portico covers the main patio.
A straight, wide staircase leads to the second floor. The master bedroom is on the left. It has hardwood floors and windows with plantation shutters facing the back of the house. The room is a good size and has a mirrored closet on one wall.
A wide, arched doorway leads to the master bathroom, with the vanity directly across from the bed. It has two sinks and has not been fully upgraded. The cabinets are painted white and they added hardware, but they are still the original cabinets. A separate door leads to the large shower, which has decorative tile but hasn’t been fully upgraded. It still has the original hardware, though a second showerhead was added on the other side. There is a second closet next to the vanity; this one also has sliding mirrored doors but is a walk-in closet.
The two secondary bedrooms are across the landing from the master suite. The first one faces the front of the house. It has a closet with very tall, sliding doors that are slightly off track. A large bed dominates the room and doesn’t leave space for a dresser. Like the master, both secondary bedrooms have hardwood floors.
The other bedroom is similar in size and faces the side of the house. This one has a ceiling fan with a light and mirrored closet doors. The room doesn’t get a lot of light since its only window looks directly at the house next door.
A bathroom in the hallway has also been only partially updated. It has a new vanity with just one sink and new tile floors, but the original tile and hardware in the shower/tub combo.
All of the upgrades were done very well throughout the home. However, each bathroom is only partially upgraded so there is still work to be done. The three steps down from the living room to the rest of the first floor may turn some people off. Also, while the realtors boast a main floor bedroom and bath, its conversion to an office means it doesn’t have a closet and can’t really be used as a bedroom. I like the large yard and love the big windows in the kitchen. I would have liked to see bigger secondary bedrooms. While nearby Park Paseo has had several sales creeping over a million dollars lately, I have not seen one sell for over a million yet in Woodside. In 2014, two homes matching the model of 8 Candela sold for $845,000 and $835,000. I haven’t seen other sales of this model since.
